The Houston Texas Temple was announced on September 30, 1997 and ground was broken on June 13, 1998. The Temple was dedicated on August 26-27, 2000 by President Gordon B Hinckley. It was the second temple built in Texas following the Dallas Temple in 1984. Previously members in Houston had to drive five hours to attend the Temple. The Houston Temple has two ordinance rooms and three sealing rooms. It is a blessing to all the saints who live in or near Houston and is also a very beautiful landmark for Houston in general.
