Keynote Speaker: Chieko Okazaki
Chieko Okazaki was awarded the Outstanding Achievement Award in Arts and Communications by the YWCA in Salt Lake City. Sister Okazaki served as first counselor in the general Relief Society presidency from 1990 to 1997. She is called an "educator, author and lecturer... Sister Okazaki has written five best-selling books and lectures regularly on issues pertinent to women, including hope, charity, the role of women in society, domestic violence and sexual abuse.... A convert to the LDS Church, Okazaki has survived two bouts of cancer and the death of her husband. She understands what it is like to live in poverty and to be ridiculed as a minority, but rather than dwell on negative experiences, Sister Okazaki draws on them to illustrate the beauty of diversity in people."
